I am a true and firm believer that it comes from within but I do also understand that having your hair colored or a shiny new lipgloss doesn't hurt...if it doesn't change the real you of course!
I am never ok with someone feeling like they need to change who they are to fit in...heck I rarely ever wear makeup but lipgloss I am definitely into and love! I somehow seem to find the next best thing and NEW pink shade in any brand!
